Gender, Sexuality, and the Kingdom of God
This message confronts us with a profound challenge: what happens when our theological certainties meet the messy reality of human lives and relationships? Drawing from Hebrews 1, we're reminded that God spoke through prophets in many ways, but ultimately speaks to us through Jesus—the exact representation of His being. This framework invites us to reconsider how we've sometimes elevated religious law above the Lawgiver Himself. The sermon explores the tension between biblical ideals and God's gracious accommodations throughout Scripture, from divorce provisions to levirate marriage. We see Jesus consistently touching the untouchable, making outsiders the heroes of His stories, and refusing to let religious gatekeepers slam the kingdom door in people's faces. The story of the blind man in John 9-10 becomes a powerful mirror: the Pharisees knew their theology but missed the Shepherd's voice entirely. This message calls us to examine whether we've been guilty of the same—so focused on managing others' identities and behaviors that we've forgotten our primary calling is simply to love people and point them to Jesus. The kingdom doesn't work like the world; the clean cleanses the unclean, not the other way around. We're challenged to hold our theological positions with open hands while locking arms with others in humble pursuit of Jesus together.
