Micah the Farmer

What does it look like to speak truth when you feel like an outsider? The prophet Micah gives us a compelling answer. A farmer and country dweller from the small town of Moresheth, Micah ministered for over 50 years during a time of political upheaval, social injustice, and spiritual drift. He was no elite. He had dirt under his fingernails and spoke with the plain wisdom of someone who knew what it meant to live on the margins. Yet God used him powerfully, and his message cuts straight to the heart of what faithful living looks like. At the center of his prophecy is one of the most clarifying calls in all of Scripture, found in Micah 6, where God makes clear what He requires of us: to pursue justice actively, to love with the same compassionate and relentless kindness that God Himself shows, and to walk in genuine humility before Him. These are not abstract ideals. They are a way of life. Micah reminds us that speaking truth is not reserved for those with platforms or credentials. It belongs to those who know their people, love their people, and are willing to say the hard and hopeful things that need to be said. His voice was shaped by where he came from, and that is exactly what made it worth hearing.
