Dave serves as the lead pastor at Sunrise Ministries. Since being ordained as a pastor in 1975, he has served churches in Portage, Holland, and Hudsonville, Michigan. During his early years of ministry he returned to Western Seminary to complete a Doctor of Ministry curriculum focused on “Churches in Conflict.” Many years later, this study would pave the path for his current work as the Executive Director of Leader Renewal Institute.
In 1971, while working during the summer in Pine Rest Children’s Retreat, Dave met a nurse from Chicago named Linda De Boer. Eighteen months later, on December 23, 1972, they were married. Their family includes daughters, Leah, married to Kent De Young, Rachel, married to Chad Chapman, and son, David, married to Heather. In addition to being a pastor and a parent he is now “Papa” to four dear grandchildren; Makenzie, Lydia, Jakob and Lukas.
In 2005 Dave’s life took an unexpected turn. He was diagnosed with carcinoid cancer. As a patient of Houston’s MD Anderson hospital, he had surgery in 2005 and again in 2009. He has experienced God’s love and wonderful healing through the care of people skilled in treating carcinoid cancer.
Dave and Linda continue to celebrate their journey with the Sunrise family. So many have found gracious forgiveness and healing hope at Sunrise. So many who needed a friend found a family at Sunrise. He feels a special joy each time he sees people lingering in conversation after our coffee and doughnut time. He dreams of the day many more discover God’s love through the loving Sunrise family!
- Church Nurse
Grace and her family walked into Sunrise Ministries in January of 2005 and found a warm inviting church family that they quickly became a part of! Grace is married to Tim, a structural engineer, and is the mother of three adult children and grandmother of one.
Grace graduated from Butterworth nursing school and Nazareth college and worked as an adult critical care and emergency room RN for 23 years at Spectrum/Butterworth Hospital. Grace graduated from Calvin College Parish Nursing course in 2009. Grace feels her calling at this time to be a liaison between church members and health care providers and loves visitation, teaching, and answering any questions members may have. Grace would be happy to be available to serve anyone from Sunrise!
- Director of Women’s Ministries
Kelly officially joined the Sunrise Staff in May, 2008, as Director of Women’s Ministries. Prior to this she served on the board of Elders at Sunrise for 4 years. Kelly has three wonderful children and also works part-time as a Certified Hand Therapist in the evaluation and treatment of traumatic hand injuries.
Her vision for Sunrise Women’s Ministries is to create a safe place for women to come, openly identify, and work through life’s trials and challenges, creating an avenue for Christ’s healing to take place, through His Holy Spirit, His word, and through fellow sisters in Christ.
She has enjoyed creating various avenues within the church where Sunrise women develop and foster a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as well as other Christian women. These avenues include weekly and bi-weekly bible studies, small group activities, and the planning/implementation of the very first women’s retreat in February 2009. Kelly’s heart and passion are most fulfilled when she has the opportunity to walk side by side with someone who is struggling, provide a listening ear, and help seek Christ’s direction in their situation.
- Worship and Ministry Coordinator
Dan joined the staff in December, 2010, and serves as Sunrise’s Worship and Ministry Coordinator. He coordinates the worship teams for Sunday morning and helps to direct the flow of the service. He also heads up the small group ministry for the church.
Since graduating from Hope College in 2003 with a Music Education degree, he has served at churches in Jenison and Holland as well as taught music in several different public school districts. He and his wife, Karissa, enjoy spending time outdoors, singing together, and playing with their wonderful kids Lillian and Caleb. He also enjoys drinking coffee, playing board games, talking, and having fun.
- Financial Secretary
Barb loves Sunrise Ministries and feels so blessed to be part of such a warm, loving congregation. After working as the Administrative Assistant since the start of Sunrise, she has recently moved to the part time position of Financial Secretary. In this position, Barb assists the Treasurer of the Board of Directors with financial work. She is excited to participate in Sunrise’s bright future and see how God continues to bless and grow this wonderful church.
Barb is married to Paul Erffmeyer, a teacher at Hudsonville Christian School. They have three daughters, three son-in-laws, and three grandchildren. Barb loves being “Gramsie” and spending as much time with her family as possible!
- Director of Children’s Ministry
Mary joined the staff at Sunrise in the fall of 2010. She has been at Sunrise since 2007. She is married to Ryan and is a “stay at home” mom raising their 3 children. She loves being home to be involved in the kids’ schools and being involved at church. She has been very active within the church since an early age. Since she has kids of her own now it was an easy choice to become the Children’s Ministry Director. “There is no better gift than to raise and teach your children to know the Lord.”
- Administrative Assistant
Cindy joined the Sunrise staff in December, 2011. She is in the church office three days a week working on the church bulletin, keeping the church calendar, and keeping the congregation informed of any information, needs, or concerns through the week. She is available by phone or email to help anyone with a question or need.
Prior to joining the staff, Cindy enjoyed volunteering in roles where she could help coordinate and organize different fundraisers and activities for the church.
She is married to Mark and has three wonderful boys. Her family joined the church because they felt the warmth and friendliness immediately, and they continue to feel God’s presence within the congregation and teaching every Sunday. They all feel very blessed to be a part of the Sunrise family.
